In August Mute Comp. moves to Dansehallerne at Carlsberg, celebrates their 10th anniversary and opens the theatre season 2009/2010 at Dansescenen’s new stage with the performance POST SECRET.

It is overwhelmingly beautiful when Kasper Ravnhøj spins in a dance, which is like one long fall though he steadily pick himself up – obviously without using any strength as there were no gravity and no heavy past. The solo is the whole performance in its essence.
Politiken, September 7th

In POST SECRET Mute Comp. explores the strangeness of human behaviour and the shady sides of the human being. POST SECRET is a performance about loving life no matter what it brings – about living with one’s actions, forgiving and moving on.

The performance presents some of the most outstanding dancers/performers from Denmark and abroad:

From the Russian republic of Tuva, Mute Comp. has extraordinarily engaged one of the most accomplished female musicians and throat singers: Choduraa Tumat. Tumat is the artistic director of the female ensemble ”Tyva Kyzy”/ DAUGTHERS OF TUVA. The ensemble is the first and only ensemble from the republic of Tuva which performs abroad and with all kinds of Tuvinian throat- and overtone songs. In addition to Kasper Ravnhøj, one of the choreographers of Mute Comp., the audience will experience the dancers Tiziana Fracchiolla and Thomas Bentin. Together, this dynamic quartet will constitute an example of Danish dance of an international standard. Read more here.

2008/2009

In April and May Mute Comp. Physical Theatre begins rehearsals on the new performance POST SECRET.

Jacob Stage creates the dance movie Another day with Dynion with Dynion Dance Company in Wales. A tale of a group of young men who turn their backs to the town’s football traditions, plunge into crash dance and bring new life to a sleepy seaside town. The movie opens in Swansea, Wales, and is subsequently screened in Cinemateket, Copenhagen, at the Day of Dance (29th April).

In January 2009 Jacob Stage and Kasper Ravnhøj are rewarded a prize by the Danish Arts Foundation for the concept for – and the staging of – Grasping the floor with the back of my head.

The artists have succeeded in creating a performance where live music is integrated with dance and set design. A vivid and playful light emanates from the title of the performance. The functions of the different performers receive equal weight and form a poetic synthesis. The result is a highly professional performance.
The Danish Arts Foundation´s grounds for awarding Mute Comp. a prize for Grasping the floor with the back of my head.

Mute Comp. receives a two-year of work and project grant from the Danish Arts Council Committee for the Performing Arts.

In October Mute Comp. participates at the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater /CIFET with GRASPING THE FLOOR WITH THE BACK OF MY HEAD. They receive the prize for “Best Performance” and are nominated for “Best Female Performance”.

2008

In May Mute Comp. participates in the site-specific solo festival Mellemrum in Copenhagen at a roof in the inner city with the audience placed at an adjoining building.
In february Mute Comp. performs Grasping the floor with the back of my head with live music by the band Valravn.

”Errare humanum est perseverare diabolicum” (by Seneca the Younger). “To err is human, to persist is devilish … The performance revolves around reflections on the Fall of Man - on how we make our own hells as a result of wanting too much, too little, that we do not dare or dare too much, love, feel, think… As a metaphor: that we cut of the branch we are sitting on. Grasping the floor with the back of my head is nothing less than a performance about why man at all times has created his own hell.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

2007

In June Mute Comp. performs MARSHMALLOW (duet, 15 minutes), a performance about the ”Jackass generation", which has to go to extremes to feel alive. The performance offers lots of blows to the head and bludgeon strokes.

MARSHMALLOW is performed at St. Mark’s Church and at Bard College in New York followed by one week of master class with dance students from the whole world.
In July the Marshmallow concept is repeated in Saint Petersburg, Russia, at the Open Look Festival.

2006

For the first time, Mute Comp. Physical Theatre visits New York and shows the dance movie Bliss in connection with Dance on Camera Festival 2006. Mute Comp. networks and collaborates with American artists, dancers, air artists and scriptwriters.

In May – as Artist in Residence at Dansescenen – Mute Comp. performs PROPAGANDA.
At the same time the company makes a film version of the performance.

Mute Comp. presents a wide range of the best international and Danish dance films at the first Dance Film Festival in Denmark.

PROPAGANDA is a political performance about fear and alienation. Two men are cooped up in an apartment. They do not know how long they have been there or if the danger is over. Day and night change just as swiftly as when you turn the light on and off in an aquarium. Time passes slowly. Paranoia and desperation set in until the two men decide join battle. Archery, knife-throwing, cans of beers and a dancer in flames are central elements in the performance.

The result is a formidable and inspiring display of body theatre supported by a brilliant sense of pictures, timing, a wide range of dance techniques, exciting folk music played on accordion and a lovely black, wired and crazy sense of humour. Definitely worth seeing …
Henrik Lyding on Propaganda, Jyllandsposten, 11 May, 2005.

Mute Comp. Physical Theatre is selected to present excerpts from earlier performances at P@rt – the first international showcase for Danish performing arts. The company subsequently receives lots of invitations from abroad to participate in festivals.

In November Mute Comp. performs CATERPILLAR at Dansescenen.

CATERPILLAR is a performance about killing time when the world is dead, inspired by Hiroshima, Beslan and Phuket. Five people survive a disaster, but they do not know what has happened. There was no warning… nothing. Everything and everybody is gone, and in the ruins they try to communicate and lick their wounds. CATERPILLAR is about people under extreme conditions, about fighting for life and reaching for other people.

With live music, zither playing, a rubber dinghy in a sea of asphalt, a wire you can stick to, a Philippine children’s song and river dance on new year´s speed!

Caterpillar kills time so originally that the performance entitles Mute Comp to be placed among that handful of Danish scene groups, which is also in great demand internationally. For Ravnhöj and Stage really can express the fear of the world as it is right now and as words can hardly tell: Nuanced, non-judgmental and sincere.
Anne Middelboe Christensen on ”Caterpillar”, Information, 28th November, 2006.

2005

Mute Comp. Physical Theatre’s DEATH AND THE MAIDEN is nominated for a REUMERT as BEST DANCE PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR.

Kasper Ravnhøj and Jacob Stage are selected as Artists in Residence at Dansescenen in the theatre season 2005/2006.

In May Mute Comp. performs BRIGHT LIGHTS at Dansescenen.

I´m a chicken with the head cut off this line now now. I´m just not right she said I think she said turn right now. (Text: Kasper Ravnhøj).

BRIGHT LIGHTS is a performance about loss. A crowded forest of spruces creeps into the living room and under your skin. It snows inside and outside. Bright Lights is a melancholy story with also humour, an English mime artist, man-power dance, a dancing accordion and an unlucky Ninja!

Mute Comp. tours in Syria in connection with the Bosra International Dance Festival.

BRIGHT LIGHTS is staged at the old Roman amphitheatre for an audience of about 12.000 people. During the same tour Mute Comp. also performs in the desert village Palmyrra and the Syrian capital of Damaskus.

(...) Mute Comp. is one of modern Danish dance's most inspiring, creative and talented young companies with a good grasp of the latest forms of dance, mime, juggling, text and theatre. Mute Comp. is something as rare as an audacious company of louts that dares to do and does it. It is just tremendous.
Majbrit Hjelmsbo on Bright Lights, Weekendavisen, 5 May, 2005.

Jacob Stage receives a scholarship from the Danish Arts Foundation (Statens Kunstfonds Arbejdslegat) and participates in the dance movie festival Dance for Camera in Brighton.

2004

In May Mute Comp. performs DEATH AND THE MAIDEN at Kanonhallen.

DEATH AND THE MAIDEN is a political performance based on Ariel Dorfmann’s world famous script. A story about lies, diplomacy, justice and torture – and the meeting between a victim of torture and an executioner. Brutal, virtuoso – spiced with black humour.

What we experience is a constant contrast and refreshingly different challenge to a well-known story in the perhaps wildest dance performance of the theatre season.
Henrik Lyding on Death and the Maiden, Jyllandsposten, 8 May, 2004.

Jacob Stage directs and choreographs the dance movie Bliss.

2003

In January – in connection with Dansolution 2 – the winners at Dansescenen – Mute Comp. Physical Theatre presents the performance IF WISHES WERE KISSES – a poetic physical performance about an elderly man who returns to a deserted hotel that brings back memories.

IF WISHES WERE KISSES is a tribute to the American born dancer and choreographer Ralph Grant who, for many years, danced in all the great companies in both the USA and Europe. For a longer period of time, he taught and choreographed in Denmark. If wishes were kisses is based on his time at Pina Bausch – one of the pioneers within the dance theatre and the genre Austrucktanz.

… a work both meaningful and entertaining…
Vibeke Wern on If wishes were kisses, Berlingske Tidende, 16 January, 2003.

Kasper Ravnhøj and Jacob Stage each receive a Choreography Scholarship from The Danish Actors Association (Dansk Skuespiller Forbunds Koreograflegat).

Mute Comp. choreographs for the play Laser og Pjalter at Betty Nansen Theatre.

Waterloop is staged in connection with Dansescenen’s 10th anniversary and at the "Festival de la nouvelle danse d'Uzés" in France.

2002

Again Mute Comp. participates in Dansescenen’s competition Dansolution – now with the performance WATERLOOP. The performance is voted “Favourite of the Audience”.

WATERLOOP is a surreal story about how it is to suddenly experience a fata morgana in your own living room. A strange wet man visits another man in his home. With poetic pictures, humour, physical theatre and a Coca Cola with an attitude the two men fight throughout a touching story.

Kasper Ravnhøj receives REUMERT’s TALENT PRIZE (Reumerts Talentpris).

Mute Comp. Physical Theatre debuts in May with the performance GALEFYRSTEN in Terra Nova Live Art Room. The performance is restaged in the autumn as a result of overwhelming audience interest.

GALEFYRSTEN is based on Elgard Jonsson’s autobiographical book about the boy Elgard, who is admitted to psychiatric care. Here he is seen simply as a case, but after seven years of incarceration, the trainee Barbro Sandin emerges; he sees the human being in Elgard, cures him and paves the way for Elgard so that he gets the opportunity to become a therapist at the very hospital where he was held for seven years.

2008

In february Mute Comp. performs Grasping the floor with the back of my head with live music by the band Valravn.

”Errare humanum est perseverare diabolicum” (by Seneca the Younger). “To err is human, to persist is devilish … The performance revolves around reflections on the Fall of Man - on how we make our own hells as a result of wanting too much, too little, that we do not dare or dare too much, love, feel, think… As a metaphor: that we cut of the branch we are sitting on. Grasping the floor with the back of my head is nothing less than a performance about why man at all times has created his own hell.

2007
